There has been some confusion regarding the benefit for Kevin Thomas of NOPD. I have been in contact with one of the coordinators of the benefit. I would also like to add that this is not the Officer who was shot this last spring. That was Officer Andres Gonzalez (if you still wish to assist him you may contact me and I will give you information.) During the past year with everything that we have all been going through Kevin, his family and friends seemingly slipped through the cracks. Hi beautiful people of Convergence! I just wanted to remind you guys that Above Ground is sharing a table with Adopt-a-goth in the vendor bazaar. We received a ton of donations from all your wonderful people and have been handing out clothes, toys, accessories, etc all day. We have already handed out about half of what we received and still have over 14 boxes we will open tomorrow. All you need is a valid Mississippi or Louisiana ID.
For those of you who wish to help, we could definitely use volunteers. Just show up at the table at the bazaar and relieve whoever is helping out at the time. An hour, two hours - whatever you can give to the cause.

In a few days I will begin posting a third list on my journal. I am not looking forward to that. Many people in NOLA died. Many of those on the Lost list may be among them. I already know of one confirmed death. Their name is not in the paper, if it was I probably would not recognize it as I only knew the person by their street name. Chances are this person has not been identified at all. Most of the bodies in the morgue lay unidentified. Most probably will not be identified. Those are just the bodies in the morgue. Bodies that for many reasons lie unclaimed and difficult if not impossible to identify. It is my understanding from many, many sources that a good deal of our dead are in the River. Placed there in part by people who did not know what else to do, placed there in part by those representing various authorities as well. For a multitude of reasons I struggled about putting this here in the journal but, I feel it is important and necessary. It is also the right thing to do. If you want to know where the bodies are they are in the River. In a city that is respected for it's traditions in honoring the dead it is just pitiful.( Read more... )

You will need a Windows Media Player compatable player to view it. You will also have to download it to either a temp file the media player or a your computer. I warn you ..you willbecome extremely homesick..it is sad and beautiful and you will probably want to cry...For those of you who cannot understand why we want to go back, just watch the video. Afterwards, if you still do not like NOLA just imagine if that was your home.

Does anyone know what kinds of aid jobs are opening in NOLA? I want to go home and I want to start rebuilding, but I know I won't be able to do it through strictly volunteer work. Has anyone heard anything? The Jefferson Parish areas would be fine too. Thank you.

I've been at my church volunteering for the last couple of days, and we've been calling each shelter and making a database of their current needs. These are the things that virtually every shelter needs:
Diapers/Pullups
Baby food and formula
New men's and women's underwear in all sizes, new bras in all sizes
Sheets
Pillows
Towels
cleaning supplies (to keep their facilities clean)
paper/plastic cups, plates, napkins, utensils
The diapers and underwear are the top two needs that I'm hearing every place I call. Just thought I'd pass the info along.
